We are delighted to introduce our second book Home Sweet Sewn" published by David and Charles(Nov2009)

Ever passionate about collecting thrifting and recycling fabrics, giving them a twist and creating something new, we have devised a collection of 23 projects for the home that are either functional or frivolous but always fun. All the projects within the book grew out of seasonal inspiration and the cycle of the year. We have included many different techniques such as photo montage, appliqué, embroidery, crazy patchwork, stencilling and rag rugging. Within the pages are fabric swatches, sketches, photographs and even poems to illustrate how each project evolves. We also offer design inspirations suggesting alternative ideas for the projects although we would love all of our readers to put their own ideas, designs and interpretations into their creations.
Our year begins with a beautiful monthly wall planner created using favourite photographs. A sweet appliqué song thrush apron is sure to encourage you to pick up a duster and start spring cleaning. We show you how to preserve the memory of your house in stitch and to make a bold design statement, we'll encourage you to dig out your retro pillowcases and sheet to transform them into a fresh modern duvet and pillowcase.

The warmer weather brings flowers, summer fruit, and lots of creepy crawlies! Our vintage floral tea set, strawberry stencilled picnic blanket and quilted flowers and garden creatures floor game all take inspiration from these lazy days.
Moving into the Autumn the warm earthy tones of these chillier months influenced our ideas for a beautiful throw designed with collected leaves, a rich rag rug made from recycled t-shirts and a tree of life cushion with crisp apple appliqués.

As the year draws to a close, the festive season inspired a very contemporary holly wreath constructed from fabric and embellished with buttons and beads. There is also a project to create a beautiful angel rag doll dressed from a crazy patchwork of vintage linens. Finally, for a lasting reminder of the year, we designed a memory book incorporating motifs of the year and filled with family mementos, stories and keepsakes.
We are incredibly proud of this book and hope you enjoy reading it, being inspired by it and creating some of the projects within it as much as we have enjoyed putting them together. We love receiving images of the projects that you have made inspired by our books and have set up an flickr group for Home Sweet Sewn where you can show off your finished creations, alternatively you can email us at projects@aliceandginny.co.uk.
Happy Sewing!
